Congressional transportation leaders want hours-of-service rule delayed

Congressional transportation leaders have sent a letter to FMCSA requesting it postpone implementing the hours-of-service rule until after the ongoing lawsuit between ATA and the FMCSA has been resolved.
On March 15, the American Trucking Associations presented oral arguments against the Federal Motor Carrier’s rule in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. It is not known when the court will issue a ruling, but the rule is currently scheduled for implementation July 1.
House Transportation Committee Chairman Bill Shuster asked Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood to delay implementing rule changes until 90 days following resolution of the ATA’s litigation.
Most law enforcement training will take place 90 days before the implementation date, the Pennsylvania Republican wrote. It would be wasteful exercise of enforcement and industry training if the court’s decision alters the rule, he stated.

What does your truck color say about you?

Studies linking color choices and personality traits suggest there’s more behind your favorite color than you may be aware. In fact, color psychology is an entire field, and the reality is that no matter how many bells and whistles, stripes and flames, graphics, chrome or custom touches you put on your truck, nothing defines its style, or you, as much as its color. What’s behind a color?
BLACK: Absence of color; associated with strength and power. Owners: Deeply emotional, focused, loyal, stubborn, love danger, self-protective, loyal
RED: Draws the most attention; is an intense color. Owners: Passionate, cheerful, romantic, aggressive, enjoy attention, dramatic
BLUE: Most popular color; considered calming. Owners: Conservative, loyal, dreamers, positive, visionary, powerful
GREEN: Color of nature; soothing palate. Owners: Sharp, smart, fast thinkers, edgy, lucky, prosperous

ATDynamics Announces TrailerTail Agreement with Prime Inc.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — ATDynamics said here Thursday at the Mid-America Trucking Show that its TrailerTail device will be installed on at least 450 refrigerated trailers operated by Prime Inc., one of the nation’s largest refrigerated carriers.
ATDynamics CEO Andrew Smith said the installation of the new equipment is tailored to the needs of Prime’s owner-operators, who can realize an average of about 7% higher take-home pay because of fuel efficiency created by the tails.
“Many fleets which use owner-operators to pull their freight resist in investing in fuel-efficient trailer equipment or do the bare minimum to comply with regulations,” said Paul Higgins, Prime Inc.’s director of maintenance.
ATDynamics said the agreement with Prime followed extensive testing, and that the equipment will be installed on all trailers that remain to be manufactured this year.

The new product, which the two companies said also would lower preventive maintenance costs and total life cycle cost improvements, was unveiled at American Trucking Associations’ annual Technology & Maintenance Council meeting on Sunday.
The system, which combines an Eaton Fuller Advantage Series automated transmission with new Cummins ISX15 SmartTorque2 ratings, will be available this fall for linehaul, regional haul and less-than- truckload applications.
Through a combination of hardware and software enhancements, the powertrain package includes integrated power, fuel and shifting strategies to provide higher fuel economy for both linehaul and regional haul applications.
