The GEN-STAR 4500 APU uses a Perkins long life industrial engine which runs at less than 2000 rpm, resulting in an 85% reduction in fuel consumption when idling. When operating the APU it will provide 110V power into the sleeper to run appliances. The APU system monitors and controls the truck batteries to maintain charge and can be programmed to start at any desired time so the truck is preheated or cooled and ready for use. It also features automatic shutdown for low oil or high water temperature.

When shore power is available, the unit will switch to the grid, providing heat and cooling through the grid and it will also supply electrical power to the sleeper to run other appliances. The shore power connection is included as standard equipment with the GEN-STAR 4500.

Three different cooling systems are available as options from RV Products to be powered by the GEN-STAR 4500. The Cool-CabTM provides 13,000 BTUs/hr of cooling, and also has an 8,000 BTU’s/hr electric heater – it weighs 140 lbs. The low profile Polar Mach 15 RoughneckTM offers 15,000 BTU’s/hr of cooling power. The RoughneckTM Rooftop Air Conditioner provides 13,500 BTU’s/hr of cooling and includes a shock absorbing compressor mount to handle rugged road conditions.

The APU engines can be serviced at any Perkins locations nationwide. The heating units can be serviced at any RV product/Colman locations nationwide.
