The battery-based Idle Free Electric APU is the complete, year-round electric APU solution for sleeper trucks and day cabs pulling a dry van. The system captures energy produced by the engine's alternator and stores it in an independent battery bank (4 AGM batteries). When the engine is off this energy can be used to power air conditioning and heating systems, provide AC electricity for cab appliances, and keep the truck engine warm. All systems provide 10,000 BTUs of cooling and 17,000 BTUs of heating with over 10 hours of run time. Power to the cabin is available through 120V AC GFI protected outlets, and a simple push button digital thermostat is used to control HVAC systems.
Every Idle Free system comes with shore power connectivity as standard. Each truck that has an Idle Free system on it will either have its existing shore power connection integrated to the Idle Free system, or will have an independent connection for shore power installed. Another key feature of the Idle Free system is the built in battery charger. Whenever the truck is connected to shore power, the Idle Free system will automatically charge the truck’s starter batteries and then the Idle Free batteries. This will significantly extend the life of both sets of batteries.
The system comes in three configurations - combined heat and air conditioning for year round idle elimination in all climates; heat only; and air conditioning only. Drivers or fleet operators who choose to invest initially in a heat-only or A/C-only configuration can easily expand their system in the future as budgetary and/or driving conditions change. Installation requires only 18 inches on the frame rail and less than 25% of the space under the bunk.
Also, reefer fleets can use the patented Reefer Link technology for unlimited run time. When the trucks' engine is off and the reefer is running, the Idle Free system converts the energy produced by the reefer's alternator to 120 volt AC electricity using a pure sine wave inverter. This electricity is used to produce a constant source of power for all the Idle Free components: air conditioner, heater and cab appliances. Additionally, the patented Reefer Link technology provides backup alternator power for both the reefer unit and the truck's starter batteries in the event one or the other fails.
The Idle Free electric APU can be used on any brand of truck and can be customized to your driving conditions. It can be purchased, installed and serviced at any of the 200 locations in North America with the assistance of Idle Free Systems. Comes with a 2 year warranty on parts.
